Aloo Gobhi

recently i have the craving for the taste of aloo gobhi... and i found a recipe on it to get me going on making my own aloo gobhi to calm the craving...

the thing about recipes is that i only use it as reference and rarely follow it to the pinch... for me, cooking is more about improvise and keep myself out of the state of hunger.

so i got the gist of the main ingredients for aloo gobhi: onion, tomato, potato, cauliflower and "indian" spices. well.. the onion, tomato, potato and cauliflower are easy to get in the supermarket but the spices... we'll see about that.

i experimented with cooking the 4 main ingredients without proper spices and used rice wine and soy sauce instead... and that turned out way bland...

so yesterday... i went to the supermarket searching for spices. it seems that salt, sugar, MSG, and pepper are the only spices people use for cooking in this region. it took a while for me to find curry powder and cumin seeds... and they were the only "indian" spices i found...

needless to say... the craving is still on and i should move on to plan B - time to find a restaurant that serves aloo gobhi...

Him I'll have to try that recipe. You should look at trying to make fish (I like talipa) with the same indian spices. Its easy and turns out pretty good.
